Velvet is Not Always a Fabric!!

Attention all fashion designers: Please don't name your clothing company after a fabric. Perfect example?? The company Velvet that sells cute women's clothing to Anthropologie. About six months ago, Anthropologie was stocking its stores with the most fabulous yoga-inspired, cropped pants from a clothing brand named Velvet. The fit of these pants were superb. They looked great on every figure and the COTTON fabric held up after several washings. The problem is that Anthropologie has discontinued selling them and I desperatley want to add a second pair to my wardrobe collection. So, I turned to the internet to track them down. But, search engines only lead me to "Velvet yoga pants" or "Velvet cropped pants". It seems that Google, Yahoo and the likes keep defaulting Velvet as a fabric search rather than a brand search!! I haven't been able to hunt down the company Velvet to see if they still carry the line. Woah is me. Any readers have suggestions?
p.s. Don't you feel horrible for the girls who have to model these hideous velvet track suits in the picture above?

you're in luck. I spend my days in the contemporary industry so I'm very familiar with the brand. I think this is who you're looking for www.velvet-tees.com , you can also find the brand at revolveclothing.com, standardstyle.com, and many more. A hint for looking up difficult names later; google "velvet brand clothing" for example and even if not the site you'll see who else sells them. Hope this helps...happy shopping!

That's so funny! I had a similar experience -- I saw there beautiful sweaters at Barney's but they were sold out of my size -- I tried to find them online, but the name of the company was Mothballs. As you can imagine, a search for "Mothballs" and "sweater" was very frustrating!

BTW, love your site! Good luck with your new job. I used to live in Boston and always found lots of great things in that store.

Whenever you have a hard time finding obscure designers, go to Infomat. It's a Yellowpages of Fashion labels.

Hi Nikki,

I have luckily owned two pairs of the cropped yoga pants by Velvet. I too just discovered that Anthropolgie no longer carries them after frantically searching their website to place an order! I live in these pants....well, let's just say I wear them more than any other pants for sure! Thanks to your blog, I hope to find the actual Velvet brand website so I can keep purchasing the greatest comfy pants.

Nikki, I just found your site. I also LOVE the Velvet yoga-inspired, cropped pants. I have two pairs that I have been wearing for 3 years (even thru a pregnancy). I can't find them anywhere. Have you had any luck?

Hi - in response to Anonymous who did an search for the brand Mothballs - any luck? I asked a woman on the street where she got her beautiful sweater - she said Filene's Basement, and it was the Mothballs brand. No luck in an internet search - any suggestions?! Thank you!

interesting...just bought a pair of these cropped yoga pants at a store in Nashville TODAY for $24.99!!! For anyone that's interested, it was UAL (United Apparel Limited) on West End Avenue. They had a pretty good selection and might even ship if you ask nicely. :)
